Q1. Why should I hire a professional videographer for my wedding?
A1.

Your wedding day is a once-in-a-lifetime event.  You spend months planning and organizing everything, down to the last detail.  After all that planning, you will want a video to remember how your wonderful day unfolded and the great time that you had.

A good professional videographer will capture your wedding day or special event with a quality that is not matched by an amateur or family member.  A professional will also have back-up equipment on hand and ready.  It may be cheaper or even free if you have an amateur do it, but will it be worth it?

After all the time and energy you spent organizing your wedding day, don’t let it become just a fading memory.  Capture it, so it will  last a lifetime.  You owe it to yourself and each other to have your wedding captured by a professional videographer. After the vows are exchanged, the cake is served and the wine is drank, you will want to see your perfect wedding day over and over again.

Q3. What kind of services do you offer?
A3. We offer many services.  We specialize in videography of weddings and special events such as anniversaries, graduations and parties.

We also offer the following services.  For more information on these
services see our Other Services page for complete details and pricing.
  • Video Photo Album - Video Photo Album is a VHS or DVD of your still photos set to the music of your choice.  This is great for wedding anniversaries, graduation parties, and wedding receptions.

  • Digital Transfer Service - Digital Transfer Service is taking VHS, S-VHS, Hi-8, Digital 8, and MiniDV formats and transferring it to a DVD or any other digital format.

  • Duplication Services – We can make a duplicate of a VHS, S-VHS, Hi-8, Digital 8, MiniDV or DVD.  DVD and VHS cases are included with custom inserts.

Q4. What kind of equipment do you use and how is it compared to most other professional videographers?
A4. We use Canon HDV (High Definition) cameras for stunning picture quality. Do not settle for anything less thin HDV.

To capture the wedding vows at the ceremony we use a high-quality wireless microphone, MiniDisc recorder, and/or MP3 recorder.

Q5. How do you differentiate yourself from other professional videographers?
A5. Artistic excellence!   We strive to create elegant and timeless wedding video productions.

We are not a big company that will treat you as just another wedding; each wedding we do is special and unique.  Our work is truly our passion.

We are proud of the fact that most of the work we do comes from referrals.

Q6. Do you work well with the photographer?
A6. We take pride in working with your photographer so we both can do our best jobs for you.  In fact, the true feelings are brought out in the video when we are virtually unnoticed while the photographer works with you.  To see a list of photographers that we have worked with in the past and would love to work with in the future go to our wedding links page.

Q7. Will you be obtrusive and interfere in the wedding or special event?
A7. We will go out of our way, not to be in the way.  We get many comments after the wedding on how people did not even notice we were there.

Q8. Do you have references?
A8. Yes!  Please see our Testimonials page.

Q9. Do you have a demo of your work?
A9. Yes! We would be happy to send a complete demo to you upon request.  Please fill out the form on the Contact Us page to receive this.  We also have some short samples of our work available on our Sample page.

Q10. Do you have a written Contract/Agreement?
A10. Yes, every Wedding Video Agreement is customized and includes the details of our video services.  We will do everything we can, within reason, to make sure you are happy with the finished product. Please go to our download form page to view our Wedding Video Agreement.

Q11. What does a typical wedding video consist of?
A11. Our philosophy is to include everything important while still keeping the video entertaining; so that you will want to watch it over and over again.  Most wedding videos will be about 50 minutes longer than the ceremony.  However, it will depend on the package purchased.

The following is an outline of an edited "typical wedding video".

  • 30 second introduction
  • 5 minutes of Formal Photos and other pre-ceremony video
  • Full ceremony
  • 3 minutes of the receiving line and the get-away
  • 5 minutes of highlights of the reception site (e.g. Décor, people, cake cutting)
  • Toasts/speeches (typically 8 minutes)
  • The First Dance (typically 4 minutes)
  • 15 minutes of reception dancing, garter/bouquet toss, etc.
  • "Highlight Picture Video" (typically 4 minutes)
  • "Cinematic Recap" (typically 4 minutes)
  • "PIP Scrolling Credits" (typically 4 minutes)

Q12. Will you travel?
A12. Yes. We will travel anywhere in the U.S. by car or plane.  We will travel by car up to 75 miles from Zimmerman Minnesota, at no charge, and $.70 cents per mile after that.  Travel costs, including airfare and hotel, will be added to the total cost of the wedding package you choose.

Q13. How long will it take to get my completed video/DVD?
A13. You should have your wedding video in 1 - 3 months time, depending on the season.

Q14. How far in advance do we need to book?
A14. The sooner the better.  We will only shoot one wedding per day; which means we can fill up pretty fast. Generally your date will be open if you book 9 to 12 months before your wedding date.

Q15. How do we book our wedding with Northern Lights Video?

A $500 deposit is needed to secure your wedding date.  The remaining balance is due on or before your wedding day.

Q16. Do we need to meet with you in person?
A16. We recommend a face-to-face meeting to ensure that we understand what you want and that you feel comfortable with us.  However, if you wish, we can have all communication by phone and e-mail, because we realize how busy you are before a wedding.
